I take every precaution to prevent infection in the set up and process of your tattoo.
To maintain a healthy tattoo that will stay bright for years it’s important to care for it properly.
Your tattoo is a wound, keep it clean! If you do not take proper care of your tattoo after leaving our tattoo shop, it can easily become irritated. An actual infection or allergic reaction is very rare.
Scabbing, flaking, peeling, dryness and a hazy appearance are all natural parts of the healing process.
If you think there might be an issue, please do not hesitate to send a photo via email.
If you’re worried that your tattoo may be infected or you may be having an allergic reaction, please contact a doctor.
Your aftercare affects the healing process and quality of your tattoo, make sure to plan appropriate down/healing time after your tattoo.
For the best outcome, keep your new tattoo out of the sun for at least 2 weeks until it is healed, and then use sunscreen. Any form of tanning can damage and fade your tattoo.
Don’t soak your new tattoo in any water, and keep it clean from dirt or sweat while it’s healing.
After 2-3 weeks it should be okay to resume your normal activities, also at that point it’s okay to keep working on a multiple session tattoo or get a touch up.
Tattoos are usually considered fully healed after one month. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me or the tattoo shop.
Aftercare Instructions:
If you’ve been given a traditional bandage, leave it on for two to four hours. If you’ve been given saniderm, leave it on for at least 24 hours, up to three days.
You can shower regularly with a new tattoo, even while wearing saniderm. However, do not take baths or submerge the tattoo until it is fully healed.
It’s best to remove saniderm in the shower. Soak it thoroughly in hot water and slowly peel it off, begin pulling upward to break the seal, then downward to remove. Try not to pull the skin away from your body too much as you go.
After carefully removing the bandage, wash the tattoo gently in warm to hot water with a gentle, liquid soap. Carefully rinse all the soap off. Do not scrub. Seal your pores with a quick rinse in cold water at the end of your shower.
Pat dry carefully and gently with a clean paper towel. Do not wipe the tattoo.
Once the tattoo has healed for about three days you can start to apply lotion. After cleaning allow the tattoo to air dry for a few minutes and then moisturize with a very thin layer of a gentle, water-based, unscented lotion. Dab off any extra with a clean paper towel.
After the first week you can start applying a thin layer of lotion any time the tattoo feels dry, itchy, or flaky.
Wear loose, clean, cotton clothing that covers the tattoo while healing, even at night if possible.
Keep exercise to a minimum for the first few days after your tattoo. After that, listen to your body and stop workouts if the tattooed area seems particularly sore.
Change your sheets before your first night and regularly while healing
Try to keep pets out of bed for the first few days of the healing process.
Do not scrub or exfoliate a fresh tattoo. Do not pick at scabs or flakes.
